International Ministries has sent a $15,000 One Great Hour of Sharing emergency relief grant to the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship as an initial response.

The magnitude of the destruction we can see already shows devastation that will require not just immediate relief, but also the long-term rebuilding of homes, lives, and livelihoods.

Those wishing to support relief efforts can do so through by clicking on the DONATE button on our home page. Please designate your contributions “OGHS” on the drop-down menu.

Book Selection for Sept. 22: The Graveyard Book

“Nobody Owens, known as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn’t live in a graveyard, being raised by ghosts, with a guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor the dead. There are adventures in the graveyard for a boy—an ancient Indigo Man, a gateway to the abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible Sleer. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, he will be in danger from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod’s family…The Graveyard Book, is the only work ever to win both the Newbery (US) and Carnegie (UK) medals.”

The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion,

by Jonathan Haidt

Pantheon Books, NY 2012

A brave, brilliant, and eloquent exploration of the most important issues of our time. Penetrating, yet accessible. Profound discussion. “Moral systems are interlocking sets of values, virtues, norms, practices, identities, institutions, technologies and evolved psychological mechanisms that work together to suppress or regulate self-interest and make cooperative societies possible.” (page270)
