We remember when the world was young on a day, of the sharpest blue: Those who were embraced into your eternity: firefighters, rescue workers, and police officers who died trying to save others. Janitors who were always there, though often unseen and executives in their expensive suits, joined in death as they never were in life.
We remember the many unknown heroes who thought of another person first. Those who continue to suffer from illnesses and those who have died as a result of that day so long ago,
We remember the many more who have died: nameless victims of injustice and violence, innocent children without medicine or food, young adults without a future, and the old caught in the tyranny of history.
Prayer for the Day
As brothers and sisters in faith, we come to you, O God,
Asking for both resolute and tender hearts;
May we stand firm against the hardness of the world,
Flooded with the courage to risk the pain of loving one another.
Healing Spirit, bathe our wounds and plunge our pain,
Emptying out hearts beneath the waters of your lovingkindness.
In the name of the One who heals us,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen
Thoughts for the Day
On America's day of trial and grief, I saw millions of people instinctively grab for a neighbor's hand and rally to the cause of one another. That is the America I know.
George W, Bush, President
If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.
Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl, crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania
Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing.
Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray
O Lord, in the morning, you hear my voice;
In the morning I plead my case to you and watch.
For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
Evil will not sojourn with you.
The boastful will not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.
Psalm 5: 1-6
