Aftermath

If you didn’t notice it, your garden certainly has.  We’ve not had rain for almost three weeks.  The sun may be nice in this unseasonably warm several weeks (yes, the nights have been cool, even cold), but we need rain. And the week ahead looks just as dry.  New Jersey and some other states are ready to call it a drought.

For most of us, we just water the plants without much thought as people in western North Carolina are still digging out from the mud, now that the waters have subsided. Entire houses were swept away in the storm, and dozens of people are still missing.

Nearly $619 million has already been paid and more than 433,000 have registered with FEMA, still facing threats from some anti-government idiots – there’s no other word to better describe them. And the hurricane season isn’t over yet.

Prayer for the Day

In the aftermath of storms, we look to you, O God,

   For so many are still missing, so much needs to be done;

Praying that we can heal ourselves and the land, O Lord,

   May we realize how we have damaged your creation.

Help us to use these storms as a lesson for the future,

   Enabling us to work for a better earth.

In the name of the One who is our Guide,

   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen

Thoughts for the Day

If you really think the environment is less important than the ecoomy, try holding your breath while you count your money.

To all of you who choose to look the other way every day because you seem more frightened of the changes that can prevent catastrophic climate change than the catastrophic climate change itself. Your silence is worst of all

         Greta Thunberg

Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in their hearts,

  For there is no fear of God before their eyes;

For they flatter themselves in their ow eyes,

  That their iniquity cannot be found out and hated.

The words of their mouths are mischief and deceit;

   They have ceased to act wisely and do goo.

            Psalm 36: 1-3
