Banning Plato

It would be funny if it weren’t so sad.  The Yahoos at Texas A&M pretending to be somewhat educated have told a philosophy professor that he cannot teach Plato. Now, granted that may make Aristotelians happy, but, honestly—Plato? The problem is, of course, that Plato teaches the art of critical thinking.  Can’t have that in Texas!

While we’re at it, let’s make sure that Scripture isn’t taught either.  Between murder, mayhem, and sexual promiscuity, we also have Jesus of Nazareth who taught justice for the poor, forgiveness of our enemies, not to mention love of neighbor, clearly not welcomed by leaders in Texas.

That kind of woke teaching leads to nonviolent action in the struggle for equality, such as the kind led by a very DEI personage such as Martin Luther King.  And we all know what resulted from his adherence to the Gospel.  Yes, Texas realizes how problems can arise when people think.  Can’t have that.

Prayer for the Day

Ah, O Lord, we cry, save us from blindness of the mind,

   Accompanied by blindness of the spirit and soul;

Searching for words of light, they are blunted by darkness,

   As those who bind their minds fearing questions.

Open us, O God, to your spirit, unafraid of inquiry.

   For we know that searching for truth will set us free.

In the name of the One who is our guide,

   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The measure of a man is what he does with power.

            Plato, Greek philosopher (427-347 BCE)

One day we will learn that the heart can never be totally right when the head is totally wrong.

            Martin Luther King, prophet, martyr (1929-1968)

Listen to me, my people, and give heed to me, my nation;

   For a teaching will gout from me, and my justice for a light to the peoples.

I will bring my deliverance swiftly, my salvation has gone out

   And my arms will rule the peoples; the coastlands wait for me, hoping for my arms.

Listen to me, you who know righteousness, you who have my teaching in your hearts;

   Do not fear the reproach of others, and do not be dismayed when they revile you/

For the moth will eat them up like a garment, and the worm will east them like wool;

   But my deliverance will be forever, and my salvation to all generations.

            Isaiah 51: 4-5, 7-8
