Betraying Those Who Served

Haven’t you ever wondered how people vote against their own interests? In addition to eliminating various offices in the government based on a combination of racism and fraudulent claims about waste, the new regime plans to gut services for those who have given so much to defend our country – the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Many veterans voted for the new regime based on the cost of living, but if they had read Project 2025 they would have seen that they, too, were on the chopping block. An internal memo obtained by Reuters calls for a reduction of 80,000 jobs in a move to privatize the important medical services our veterans need. That’s a one-third cut in the staff who serve our veterans.

Where are our elected leaders who ran for office based on support from veterans? Most are silent, afraid to take on this regime and its mental midgets, the overwhelming number of whom will never have to make any sacrifices for our Nation.  But what would you expect from a so-called leader who called John McCain a loser?  Not much.

Prayer for the Day

Called to tasks, we often fail to engage them,

   For we shut our eyes to the world around us;

Afraid to move out from our tepid lives to care for others,

We need your mercy, O God, to chastise our faithlessness.

Refine our intent and give us resolve in our actions

As we strive to live your Word shared with us.

In the name of the One who opens us to you,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

He’s [Trump] is gutting the system that was designed to care for our brothers and sisters in arms.

Naveed Shah, Common Defense, a grassroots veterans’ organization

Their plan prioritizes private sector profits over veterans’ care, balancing the budget on the backs of those who served. It’s a shameful betrayal, and veterans will pay the price for their unforgivable corruption, incompetence, and immorality.

Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn), Senate Armed Services Committee

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me!

“Come,” my heart says, “seek God’s face.”

Your face, O Lord, do I seek. Do not hide your face from me.

            Psalm 27: 7-9
