It’s here! We made it through the darkness and despair of the last few days, and now we look forward with faith and hope for a new world, one in the promise of Resurrection.
For that is what Resurrection is – a promise. As with most promises, we ask: how can it be fulfilled?
Resurrection was not a one-time event, but an ongoing experience we have when we have faith that new life is possible. When the women first found an empty tomb, they didn’t know what to think even after they were told that death was not the end for the Jesus they had followed. Of course, the male apostles did not believe them at first.
We practice Resurrection whenever we live as Jesus, now Christ, our risen Lord, has called us to live. Resurrection is more than a promise; it is an experience, one that we can participate in as we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and house the homeless, just as Christ has told us to do. This is how as Christians we transform Christ’s promise of Resurrection into reality for the world.
Prayer for the Day
Rooted in you, O Christ, even in death, all things remain alive;
We see them reborn, transfigured, and transformed into something new;
Your Resurrection opens us to a new way to see truth and life,
For it contains the seeds of the kingdom of justice and mercy.
Give us the faith that hope and love are not in vain
But will triumph even as you, O Lord, have triumphed over death.
In the name of the One who is the Promise,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
You are the seed that will grow a new sprout; you’re the star that will shine through the day; you are the yeast and a small grain of salt, a beacon to glow in the night. Go, my friends, go to the world, proclaiming love to all, messengers of my forgiving peace, and eternal love.
Caesaro Gabarain, Spanish priest and composer (1936-1991)
If Easter says anything to us today, it says this: You can put truth in a grave but it won’t stay there. You can nail it to a cross, wrap it in winding sheets, and shut it up in a tomb, but it will rise.
Clarence W. Hall, writer (1902-1985)
Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter though them
And give thanks to the Lord.
Psalm 118: 19
