If you think xenophobia hasn’t gone far enough, take a look at the Constitutional amendment proposed by Nancy Mace (R-SC), limiting representation in Congress and on the Federal bench to only “native-born” U.S. citizens. This is the same charming member of Congress who introduced a resolution targeting Delaware member Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member, from using women’s restrooms.
Now, noting that several members of Congress, specifically Ilhan Omar (D-Minn), are only naturalized, among 19 other Representatives and 2 Senators, 6 of whom are Republicans (bet they love her proposal!), Mace claims they have divided loyalties. The U.S, Constitution states only that the President and VP must be native-born.
When a person takes the oath to be naturalized, that person abjures all loyalty to any foreign power. We have always been a country of immigrants, and perhaps some people should look to their own family histories to see where they all came from. There should be no room for bigots here.
