It would almost be comical if it weren’t so serious. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who must be obviously tired of trying to run the swampy state, 49th in child poverty, with oil and gas rigs polluting entire towns, has thanked the White House for sending him to Greenland, where he will serve as a special envoy to make Greenlanders want to be part of our great Republic.
Will they welcome him with a red carpet after plowing off the snow to lay it down? Not exactly. In fact, the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen issued a joint statement opposing any takeover by the United States.
One must admit, this latest announcement from the White House has replaced the Epstein files as the number one story, which seems to consume us. Notably, the White House, as part of its “America First” stance, is also recalling 29 career diplomats from their posts, people who have served Presidents from both parties for many years, which will leave many US Embassies without leadership or direction. Let’s see, who do we take over next?
Prayer for the Day
Holy One, we ask for your light at this time of confusion,
For too often we have tried to rely only on our own resources;
Fearful of the changing world around us, we are uncertain
As we listen to competing forces in our Nation.
Guide us, merciful One as we find ourselves adrift
Like a ship without a rudder on a vast and open sea.
In the name of the One who calls us to question,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Because power corrupts, society’s demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases.
John Adams, Second President of the United States (1732-1826)
It is not power that corrupts, but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and the fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it.
Aung San Suu Kyi, Burmese political prisoner, former leader
In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame;
In your righteousness deliver me. Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily.
Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.
Psalm 31: 1-2
