Fantasy. Evidently we Americans are high on fantasy. From comic book super heroes to the refusal to provide abortion care, we are high on fantasy. This week the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics (JAMAP) released a study on the results of the Texas law banning abortion in just about every case.
Infant deaths from congenital abnormalities in Texas went up by 23% while nationally they decreased. No exception for rape led to 26,313 rape-related pregnancies there. The attack on abortion care is really an attack on women controlling their lives.
Another proposed limitation on women is the drive to eliminate no-fault divorce claiming it hurts families. Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas have introduced bills to go back to the days when women had to claim and prove adultery or serious abuse to get out of bad marriages. It’s just the beginning. Take a look at Project 2025, developed by the Heritage Foundation. It wants a Nation not for 2025 but 1825.
Prayer for the Day
Concerned that hard-won freedoms will be taken from us,
We become fearful in this deeply conflicted society;
Troubled by the political rhetoric of anger,
We want to shut ourselves off from the world around us.
But you, O God, tell us that we must pay more attention,
Not less, to the conflicts that consume us.
In the name of the One who is our strength,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
The admission that Idaho’s Republicans lawmakers may outlaw safe and effective forms of birth control is our worst fear realized. This declaration should serve as a wake-up call for every Idahoan, and American, that our right to privacy and the very control of our bodies and lives are in their crosshairs.
Lauren Nicochea, Minority Leader, Idaho State Legislature
But over decades of law and the progression of our civilization…, incompatibility is very common. A person should be able to escape a situation that is untenable to them.
Nikki Edwards, family law attorney on Oklahoma bill to end no-fault divorce
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God, protect me from those who rise up against me
Deliver me from those who work evil; from the bloodthirsty, save me.
Even now they lie in wait for my life; the mighty stir up strife against me.
For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord, for no fault, they run and make ready.
