Full videos are always worth watching. Yesterday Kristi Noem, the DHS Secretary who always has her hair coiffed for all situations, was holding a press conference explaining why Los Angeles required troops when Sen. Alex Padilla interrupted her speech with a question. He did not “storm” the new conference with “wildly inappropriate behavior,” but said he wanted to ask a question. The video from inside the room shows a calm Padilla, identifying himself, trying to ask a question.
At that point three ICE officers pushed him out of the room and then threw him on the ground in the hallway, handcuffing him from the back with his face on the floor. The video is disturbing, to say the least.
Congresswoman LaMonica McIver was indicted on federal assault charges as she was jostled by by ICE agents and had raised her elbow, in large part to protect herself from the assault she was suffering from ICE agents. Is this what we have come to? Why don’t we just put all the dissenters into cages like in Russia? Not enough cages.
Prayer for the Day
From death to life, lead us, O God,
For we fear the storms that are overtaking us;
From despair to hope, embrace us, O Lord,
For we wonder about the events we witness.
Hold us fast as we are shaken from our moorings,
And grant us the strength to overcome these times.
In the name of the One who is our strength,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
It is unacceptable that a United States senator, in his own home state, elected by millions of people, went to ask a question for his constituents, to get an answer, and was brutally thrown to the ground and handcuffed.
U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)
If this is how they treat Alex Padilla, a United States Senator, how do you think they’ll treat you?
U.S. Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn)
How long will the land mourn and the grass of ever field wither?
For the wickedness of those who live in it,
The animals and the birds are swept away,
And because people said, “He is blind to our ways.”
Jeremiah 12: 4
