Easter 2024
The dawn is about to break. The sky is clear after a mild overnight rain, and we are looking forward to a day of joyous celebration on this Easter Sunday. The women came to the tomb to anoint a body that was not there. They fled full of fear but that fear was soon to be turned into hope as the small band of disciples began to remember what Jesus had said to them.
None of them saw the actual event we call the Resurrection but they all began to have experiences of a Risen Lord. We only know about this by stories that were handed down or well over a generation before they were written into the Gospels, but those stories and our own experience of faith bring them to reality.
Making faith the central element of our lives is what the Resurrection is about. It forms the basis of our own experience as we work to bring the kingdom to fruition, not as some cloud in the sky but here on earth, for that is how we experience the Risen Christ.
Prayer for the Day
God of all surprises, manifest yourself to us in love,
Reveal yourself to us, bringing us closer to you and to each other;
Deepen our awareness of your Eternal Spirit,
Made known to us through the totality of your creation;
May we always be open to the joy of Easter in our lives
By sharing its manifestations with others.
In the name of him who showed us how to love,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen
Thoughts for the Day
“Christ has risen.” Whoever believes that should not behave as we do. Who has lost the up, the down, the right, the left, the heavens, the abysses, and try to muddle on…
Czeslaw Milosz, poet (1911-2004)
When they came to the tomb What did they see? Only what they could not say. Too empty, too cold to say what they saw, too full to say empty.
And cold, but full. They said what they saw, saw what they saw, and knew they could not say what they saw. They did not know that whatever words they found to ssay would fill the world with those very words,
Phyllis Levin, American poet
“\Who will roll way the stone for us from th entrance to the tomb” When they looked up they saw the stone, which was very large had already been rolled back..
Mark 16: 4
