We’re now officially in hurricane season, which lasts until November, but weather forecasters are predicting a fairly “quiet” season due to El Niño, which affects our weather with increased heat (in case you hadn’t noticed) as a result of a much warmer Pacific, due to human caused climate warming.
El Niño means that the heat in the ocean will be released into the atmosphere, creating the warmer conditions and massive fluctuations in temperatures we should not want. The Midwest and its farmers will not fare well, for drought conditions will make the warming even worse.
This, of course, as the White House is pushing fossil fuels exacerbating the situation. Forecasters note that the drier conditions will create more wildfires in Asia, flooding along the South American Pacific Coast and in Florida as well, already experiencing sunny day floods. The problem is that not only will the people who voted for antiquated environmental policies suffer, but the rest of will as well.
Prayer for the Day
When will we understand what we are doing to your creation, O God,
For even the sunlight given us bear down hard on all of us;
Forgetful of your sovereignty over our seasons and our fears,
We remain thoughtless against distant weather systems.
Help us overcome erase the habits which bind or minds,
And teach us not to destroy the beauty of your world.
In the name of the One who walked among the lilies,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
The current El Niño is… riding on top of a substantial amount of global warming.
This means that the actual temperatures in affected regions could well be unprecedented, as the warming from El Niño is being topped up by climate change

I was once asked at a climate change conference what we need to “save the world.” I’m sure the questioner was expecting a technical or perhaps policy-related answer. But my response was: “More artists.”

Listen to me, my people, and give heed to me, my nation;
For a teaching will go out from me, and my justice for a light to the peoples;
I will bring my deliverance swiftly, my salvation has one out
And my arms will rule the people, the coastlands wait for me, for my arm they hope.
