One would think that given the pressure everyone is feeling about fertilizer, oil and, gas, getting through the Strait of Hormuz that it’s a good time for government to examine alternatives to our heavy dependence on oil. One would think. However, in spite of temper tantrums on opening the waterway, we actually export a lot of the oil we produce, in fact 4 million barrels a day. Now let’s see if this makes sense.
We also import oil, including from Canada. Does something not sound right? Also, in December 2025 alone we exported 200 million gallons of crude and imported 128 million. Our oil is higher grade but refineries claim they cannot refine our oil because refineries are configured to take lower grades, which end up in our gas tanks.
Citing a national emergency, the EPA “God Squad” has decided eliminating few species is just fine – Rice’s whale, about a half dozen tortoise types, and a few other odds and ends. Is something here not sounding right? The oil and gas lobby is just thrilled at this, another blow against the world God created. The problem from their perspective is that God doesn’t give them the profits they want.
Prayer for the Day
Out of the murky deep, your hands, O God, shaped life,
Yet we ignore the beauty of what you created;
From leviathan to the tiny minnow they belong to you,
But the greed of our leaders belie their excuses.
As the waters caress the creatures living in them,
May we challenge shortsighted greed.
In the name of the One who caresses all life,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
It’s this idea that if we take climate action, it’s going to really hurt us, or it’s going to hurt marginalized people, or that [fossil fuels] are necessary for society,
Alaina Kinol, Northeastern University
There’s no emergency, no legal basis to convene the committee, and no legal way to approve the extinction of Rice’s whales. This sham is nothing more than Burgum posturing for Trump and saving the fossil fuel industry a few dollars by allowing its boats to drive faster and more recklessly.

And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky. God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas and let birds multiply on the earth.”
