In 1993, concerned that fewer citizens were actually registering to vote and voting, Congress passed the National Voter Registration Act, also known as the Motor Voter Act, which required states to send registration forms to persons applying for a driver license. This action did cause some confusion, usually among Lawful Permanent Residents because, obviously, they are not eligible to register to vote.
Now the Department of Justice (DOJ) has sued 40 states, including New Jersey, for certain sensitive voter information. Voter lists are public information, accessible to all. That’s how you get all those robo calls and texts on your cell phone.
But the DOJ wants more than your name, address, and party affiliation. It wants your Social, driver license number, how you voted in the last election, for a starter. Then the DOJ plans to share this information with the Department of Homeland Security. What business is it of anyone to know how I or you voted in the last election? None. We need to be concerned about this serious assault on our freedoms.
Prayer for the Day
Blunderbuss tactics on our freedoms catch our attention, O God
But often the quiet and insidious ones are more dangerous;
You know, O Lord, how we’ve struggled for basic rights,
So don’t let us be lulled by false threats of needing security.
Help us to be ever watchful, even when threats seem small,
For they can grow like a flood and overtake us.
In the name of the One who helps us on our way,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
D.O.J. has the full power of the federal government behind it. And under the guise of election integrity, they could end up using their unique tools to introduce new vulnerabilities to the system.
Matthew Goldstein, The New York Times
I think that should concern all Americans Because it appears the Justice Department is trying to acquire sensitive information on all Americans for who knows what purpose.
David Becker, former trial attorney in the DOJ’s voting section
Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me!
“Come,” my heart says, “seek God’s face!”
Your face Lord, do I seek. Do not hide your face from me.
Psalm 27: 7-8
