False face doth hide what false heart hath done - Macbeth

Last month Trump signed an act passed by Congress imposing sweeping sanctions on Russia in an attempt to clamp down on monies funding Putin’s butchery in Ukraine.  Yesterday, in a desperate move to lower diesel prices before the midterms, Trump declared a “national emergency” and waived many of the sanctions passed by Congress. The so-called “national emergency” is his fear of Republican candidates being trounced in November.

On top of that, he then told Zelensky to stop bombing oil depots.  Of course, the fact that Putin bombs civilians, wipes out villages, rapes women, and kidnaps children in an effort to wipe out Ukraine seems to be of no matter to Trump.  This sounds somewhat skewed, don’t you think?

Today’s political cartoon in the Star Ledger says it all regarding Putin’s attacks in his attempt to destroy an independent country.  And he does not only eye Ukraine, but Latvia and Lithuania as his agents attempt to create chaos there employing sabotage. The betrayal of Ukraine will have far reaching implications for not only that nation but for all of Europe and us as well.

Prayer for the Day

Trying to contain our concerns and fears of war and its consequences,

We ask you, O God, how long will this madness continue?

Holding our breath as we watch missiles killing civilians,

We gasp as we see women and children hiding in shelters.

Grant, O God, that we do not betray the victims of aggression,

But that we will stand with those who struggle for their freedom..

In the name of the One who calls us to peace,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The Trump administration’s suspension of the Graham Act is an important and truly historic moment.

            Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev

I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

   Yes all who are incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced;

Those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish.

You shall seek those who contend with you but you shall not find them,

Those who war against you shall be as nothing at all.

For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand, I say, “Do not fear, I will help you.
