Here we go again. The Congress, that august body elected by us,the people, wants to cut Medicaid, demanding that we, the lowly, should have work requirements when often we are unable to work in order to get the measly benefits of Medicaid. Of course, the Congress has the best medical care anywhere.
Those of us in the middle, stuck with either various expensive health care plans or the ACA, earning too much for Medicaid but not enough to cover medical expenses, are told that Medicaid recipients are slough-offs, and should work, even when very elderly, in nursing homes, or disabled.
But 92% of Medicaid recipients do work or are in school. They just don’t earn what our poor members of Congress do. So as the House leadership claims there’s fraud and waste, why don’t they look at their proposed tax cuts for the wealthy, you know, those poor souls making over $1 million? Guess they just don’t see it the way we do.
Prayer for the Day
Searching for the light, often we find only the shadows,
Failing to do the good we mean to do we acquiesce to evil;
Knowing we fall short of our goals and your promise,
We come to you in contrition and ask forgiveness.
Move us from hopelessness to determination
So we live life more fully as you intended.
In the name of the One who brings us new life,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
People still have health care needs even if you cut their coverage. Their health care needs are not going to go away.
Joan Aiker, Director, Georgetown Center for Children and Families
Hospitals will close, including in rural America and urban America and the heartland of America. Nursing homes will be shut down, and everyday Americans, children, seniors, those who are suffering with disabilities, will be hurt.
Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congress (D-NY)
Thus says the Lord of hosts Render true judgment, show mercy to done another;
Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor,
Do not devise evil in your hearts against one another:
