April fool’s day – where on earth did such a day spring up?  Some historians link it to the springtime Roman festival of Hilaria, Latin for joyful, usually at the end of March, when people dressed up in silly costumes.  Others link it to the shift of the Julian to the Gregorian calendar, moving the vernal equinox from April 1 to around March 20.

What isn’t a joke, however, is that Governor Murphy tested positive for Covid.  He is a man who has been very careful, masking, getting shots, and the works, but he still has been diagnosed with it, albeit a mild form.

He’s probably trying to figure out how he ended up with it.  We should still be concerned enough to keep those masks on inside – stores, malls, whatever. The Covid rate of infection is 20% over this time last week.  The last thing we all do not need is another spike in infections.

Prayer for the Day

Upending every facet of our lives, O God, we still wonder,
    When will the effects of the pandemic be over;
For so many there was no future, but we live in hope,
    That a future will open for us this spring.
We beseech you, O Merciful God, for an end
    To our seasons of illness, despair, and death.
In the name of the One who offers hope to all,
    Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

As the sewage systems of London were developed to eliminate cholera, ventilation systems in our buildings can be used to eliminate the risk of airborne diseases, such as the flu and Covid-19.
     - Sara Zhang, distilled from “The Plan to Stop Every Respiratory Virus at Once”

Control is a simple word that, in the realm of infectious disease, doesn’t come with a sharp definition. It is possible, in some cases, to roughly anchor the concept to epidemiological goals
      - Catherine Wu, in The Atlantic (March 15, 2022)

O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm evey morning;
   Our salvation n time of trouble.
At the sound of tumult, peoples fled; before your majesty, nations scattered.
   Spoil was gathered as the caterpillar gathers, as locusts leap, they leaped upon it.
    Isaiah 33: 2-4
