After the big snowfall, the northeast is slowly returning to the new normal of driving recklessly and walking too quickly on the melting snow that refreezes at night. The whole point of a snowfall like this is to slow us down. The snow we see this morning is supposed to turn like rain in the southern portion of the weather stream, like New Jersey. Yuk! In weather like this I wonder where the feral cats go other than under my deck but I didn’t see an empty food bowl down in that sheltered region. The raccoons and possums that eat the leftover cat food are hiding in their dens and burrows. Even the squirrels didn’t come out until yesterday looking for handouts. The problem with weather like this, though, is that it has slowed down the Covid vaccination schedules. Last week before the snow the county had a testing day – outside. The workers and police must have really been cold but they tested hundreds of people including me (I tested negative). Setting up massive health related sites is a real test of planning. We need to come out of our burrows and support these efforts.

Prayer for the Day

God of the snow and rain, of the wind and calm, of the sun and clouds, Be with us as we continue to struggle against this devastating illness; Although the death toll has dropped, still too many are dying And too many people are caught up in the grief of loss. Help us to encircle others with your loving arms, So they are able to find solace in times of sadness. In the name of him who shares your solace with all, Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The experience of poetry could bring my mother back to me. Poetry offers a different kind of solace – here on earth. Natasha Trethewey, Native American poet The true way to soften one's troubles is to solace those of others. Francoise d’Aubigne, Marquise de Maintenon (1635-1719) Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; In the shadow of your wings I will take refuge until the destroying storms pass by. I cry to God Most High, to God in whom my purpose is fulfilled. Psalm 57: 1-2
