The New York Times reported that a cat would be coming to the White House.  It seems that the new First Lady wants to have a cat.  There are so many at rescue shelters I hope she’ll go and get a nice tabby or a black and white one like my Bruce.  That was the name the kids who found him gave.

Cats are great.  When Dr. Jill sits down at her computer, her new pet will jump on her lap and push into her hands with the message, “Hey, I’m more important than whatever it is you’re typing.” And then when she tries to keep typing, the cat will go from her lap onto the keyboard.  (Now you know the source of my typos.)

But the best thing about a cat that those dogs can’t match is snuggling up to you in bed, purring into your ear, and brushing a soft face against you.  The second best thing is that you don’t fracture your foot playing with it. And with all that White House help, someone else will change the kitty litter.  Meow.

Prayer for the Day

Your imagination cannot be confined, O Creator

By the boundaries and limits we set for ourselves.

Your love cannot be held prisoner, O Lord,

By the walls we create for comfort around us.

Your peace cannot be overcome, O spirit of Wisdom,

By the anxiety we often use to qualify our actions.

Enlarge our souls in the name of him who has no boundaries,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Cats are connoisseurs of comfort.

                                    - James Herriot, British writer (1916-1995)

Time spent with a cat is never wasted

                                    - Colette (1873-1954)

You desire truth in the inward being, therefore teach me wisdom in my heart.

Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean,

Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow

Let me hear joy and gladness.

                                    Psalm 51: 6-8a
