Not surprising, I suppose, that Cheniere Energy, the top exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG, for short) has requested that the EPA exempt if from limits on emissions of cancer causing pollutants, claiming that such limitations would hamper its ability to ship LNG to Europe.

Months ago, Bill McKibben suggested that Europe cut its dependence on petroarchs, the autocratic rulers of petrostates by shifting to wind and solar. Some countries, like Denmark now have over 40% of its power from wind; other countries like Germany, Sweden, and Finland are trying to shift more to wind.

Back to Cheniere and its request.  Just why does this company need to pour more stuff, to be polite, into the lungs of its neighbors, the people who live near and not so near its plant.  Sounds like hooey, a cheap way to get more profits. Or, am I just being cynical?

Prayer for the Day

Tempting are the ways of self-deception and self-indulgence,
But, you, O God, summon us to turn aside this day
Searching our hearts we come to find the life you offer.
Freeing us from our presumptions and preoccupations,
We pray for strength and courage to search for justice,
For it is righteousness and justice you want from us.
In the name of the One who calls us to do justice,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans.”

      - Jacques-Yves Cousteau, oceanographer (1910-1997)

I always saw pollution as theft, and I thought, “Why should somebody be able to pollute the air which belongs to all of us, or destroy a river or a waterway, which is supposed to belong to the whole community?”
      - Robert F. Kennedy, change maker (1925-1968)

The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places,
   And make your bones strong,
And you shall be like a watered garden like a spring of water,
   Whose waters never fail.
    Isaiah 58: 11
