It seems we can’t escape certain issues that are continually present in our minds. One is Covid, with its constantly fluctuating presence.  Like the flu season, it just never seems to go away.  Some weeks, the numbers drop; other weeks, usually after a holiday, the numbers go up.  We’re really tired of it.

We’re also really tired of gun violence. It also never seems to stop.  And we’re tired of the politicians who totally lack the moral courage to take on the gun lobby.  Yes, the Constitution gives us a right to bear arms but there are limits on other rights. Sensible regulation doesn’t end a so-called right.

The bodies of those fourth graders in Uvalde had been so destroyed by the AR-15 that DNA tests were needed to sort out the carnage for burial.  Why is it that this right under the Second Amendment is beyond regulation?  The moral cowards in Congress need to be taken on and thrown out of office.

Prayer for the Day

We’re tired, O God, we’re tired of burying murdered children,
    And we’re tired, O God, we’re tired of excuses;
When, O Lord, will the people rise up, when, O Lord.
To take on the money behind the gun lobby?
Give us hope, Holy One, so we can rise up,
No longer to mourn senseless deaths from guns.
In the name of the One who calls us to peace,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

When a country with less than five percent of the world's population has nearly half of the world's privately owned guns and makes up nearly a third of the world's mass shootings, it's time to stop saying guns make us safer.
     - DaShanne Stokes, sociologist, activist

If gun violence isn't already personal to you, then make it personal. Picture the faces of someone you love when you read the numbers.
      - Taylor Schumann, from When Thoughts and Prayers Aren’t Enough

We all growl like bears; like doves we moan mournfully.
We wait for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us.
For our transgressions before you are many, and our sins testify against us.
Our transgressions indeed are with us, and we know our iniquities:
Transgressing, and denying the Lord, and turning away from following our God,
       Isaiah 59: 11-13
