The temperature this morning is pretty much the same as it was yesterday, but it just feels different today. Perhaps it’s the totally clear sky, but it just feels different. The weather forecast promises warmer sunny days and you can almost feel that is what we will have for a while. Most of the iris, even the ones fully in bloom survived the rain.
The family group of deer are in the side yard but there’s a missing doe or two. They’re probably giving birth to the new crop of fawns I’ll be seeing within a week or so. Busy munching on the deer corn, they didn’t even move when I sprayed the hostas and other plants they like to eat. I wish they liked to eat dandelions.
The world news is just as dismal as it was yesterday, but taking delight in the beauty of the day gives us the brief respite we need. When we take those deep breaths in the early morning and let the spirit of God infuse us, for that is what it does, like a tea bag in hot water, we are given the strength to not just face the day but to reach out to the world around us and make it better.
Prayer for the Day
In the quiet of the morning, we come to you, Eternal God,
In the stillness of the night, we search for your Presence;
But there are times the world smothers and overwhelms us,
And we struggle to find peace in our souls.
Envelop us, sustain us, empower us, and enable us
To find sustenance through your love.
In the name of the One who is our model,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
i thank you god for most this amazing day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes
- e.e. cumings, American poet (1894-1962)
Incline us, O God to think humbly of ourselves, to be saved only in the examination of our own conduct, to consider our fellow creatures with kindness ..we want for ourselves.
- Jane Austen, British novelist (1775-1817)
But you, our God, are kind and true, patient, and ruling all things in mercy.
For even if we sin we are yours, knowing your power;
But we will not sin, because we know that you acknowledge us as yours.
For to know you is complete righteousness,
And to know your power is the root of immortality.
Wisdom of Solomon 15: 1-3
