The pandemic we are still experiencing has created all kinds of devastation, not just to our economy but to our common life.  Although airline bookings are almost up to pre-pandemic levels and many people I know still plan to have big thanksgiving dinners, I, for one, am still feeling uncomfortable with the thought of a large crowd at my house.

A post-Thanksgiving Covid surge is not what this Nation needs.  We still need to take precautions. A recent article in the British Journal Nature stated that mask wearing is probably the most effective protection, but how can you wear a mask at a dinner table when you are eating?

And vaccination is still so highly politicized. This week a local community college was excoriated for its vaccine mandate.  I keep thinking:  Don’t people read the news? The Covid rates are soaring where vaccine is lowest.  I’ll bet all those politicians who decry vaccine mandates are vaccinated!  For shame to use people’s health as a way to tout one’s political credentials.  For shame.

Prayer for the Day

The singer in Godspell cries, “When wilt thou save the people?

O God of mercy, when? The people, Lord, the people;”

And as we hear the news from all quarters, we, too, ask:

“Shall crime bring crime forever, strength aiding still the strong?”

We ask, O God, for strength to combat the crime of corruption,

We see rampant throughout our world today.

In the name of the One who overturned the tables,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan, American politician & sociologist (1927-2003)

If you do not tell the truth about yourself, you cannot tell it about other people

            Virginia Woolf, British writer (1882-1941)

Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry;

Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.

From you let my vindication come; let you; let your eyes see the right.

            Psalm 17: 1
