In her book Amity and Prosperity, Eliza Griswold looks at how one family’s experience with fracking contracts in their community cost them their health and made them a pariah for their opposition to the fracking that brought so much money to certain families in Amity. Fracking may bring natural gas to certain areas but it also leaves a discharge which destroys life.
The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) supposedly had banned fracking but now the new rules permit the “wastewater” discharge to enter the basin “after careful consideration” of alternatives have been evaluated. Great word “wastewater.” Sort of goes along with sewage and other similar words.
Clearly the DRBC has created loopholes at the behest of industry and at the cost of health of our people, not to mention the environment. The Marcellus Shale Coalition, its industry group, claims there is no real environmental impact on drinking water, but the captains of that industry don’t live where they would be exposed to the wastewater.
Prayer for the Day
O God of tenderness and compassion, we are often bewildered,
For in our world we see such callousness toward one another;
And we are afflicted by our careless acts of selfishness against the Earth.
Confused and unconsoled, we are uncertain of the goals we set.
Save us from our false pride that admits no wrong,

Thoughts for the Day
As a group of citizens we must speak up and act towards ending fracking. Let your government know you will not tolerate a technology that not only poisons your family but our creature family at large.
