Well, it turns out that there’s nothing like a bit of pressure from the constituents back home to get even some Republican members of Congress to raise questions about the disaster that King Elon and his little dwarves are bringing about. What will happen to the wheat that Kansas farmers planned on exporting through USAID?
Or to parks in certain western states when they are closed for the summer due to cuts in Park Service staff? Or, even more serious, to fire-prone areas due to the firings of firefighters? It seems that the black coal the elves are leaving is making some Representatives and Senators uneasy, to say the least.
Government by fiat is never a good idea, no matter what which party is in control. The whole idea of checks and balances written into the Constitution is that no one party r groups of individuals should be able to run the government by fiat. The wheat farmers in Kansas who took out loans based on prior commitments made by a bipartisan Congress are facing that reality that now.
Prayer for the Day
Holy Creator, we bring our restless hearts longing for peace,
And often we find ourselves distressed at events around us;
Longing for the baby in the manger rather than demands placed on us,
We need your guidance on how to broaden your vision for all.
Bring us into the realm of your kingdom on earth which seems so far.
And hold open to us the possibilities of your righteousness.,
In the name of the One who is your face in the world,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
I’ve never met a farmer that doesn’t care about feeding hungry mouths around the world. It’s good for our policy, you know, internationally we are leading. It also matters, you know, this is the most cost-effective thing that we can do because we’ve learned that radical Islamic terrorism and other bad things happen when people are starving.
Tracey Mann, U.S. Representative (R- Kan.)
This [cuts by fiat]is an erosion of our democracy.
Brian Riedl, a longtime economic adviser to conservative Republicans
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none,
And their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them;
I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
Isaiah 41: 17
