Remember the pandemic? Most of us just want to forget it. It’s a holiday weekend, full of sales, and people shopping, not thinking about what might be around the corner: bird flu. The USDA did conditionally approve a vaccine or chickens, more than 20 million dying or culled (killed) to prevent further outbreaks.
And you wonder why the price of eggs has skyrocketed? The flu has now been found in milk, which it seems is killed by pasteurization. There have been a few human deaths as well, just the right time for laying off CDC staff working on infectious diseases. Bird flu reports in the weekly Morbidity and Mortality Report were paused for three weeks.
States as disparate as Wyoming and Ohio have reported bird flu cases in people.in the meantime, the cyberinfants brought on by Musk are targeting HHS and other health related agencies for staffing cuts. We need more health staff and planning, not less.
Prayer for the Day
Abiding god, Grant us your presence this day,
As we seek to serve you here on earth;
Move us from our gray tinted spectacles,
Into the multi-colored world of your kingdom.
Open our eyes beyond what we see with our eyes
And our minds beyond knowledge to deeper understanding.
In the name of the One who opens the world to us,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
In the past several years, the court has provided unmistakable direction that Congress, not the executive, determines the scope of federal policy. The court even narrowed the president’s previously long-held entitlement to deference when interpreting ambiguous laws and policies.

Blood testing of large-animal veterinarians suggests that H5N1 bird flu has spread more widely than US surveillance of the virus is capturing, according to a new study by federal and state disease detectives [published after a 3-week pause in the MMR]

Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my lie from the dread enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the scheming of evildoers,
Who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows,
Shooting from ambush at the blameless, suddenly and without fear.
Psalm 64: 1-4
