It’s now the day after Easter, and the stores will be putting the Easter decorations on sale, just as they did following Christmas and Halloween. But as followers of the One who teaches us not to fear death, we cannot jut Easter on the sale shelf.  The full cost and price of Easter stays with us now and in the days that follow.

In the same way, many leaders of the Gen Z of this planet are telling us that we cannot just put creation care on the sale shelf.  They are strongly condemning approval not only of the Willow Project on Alaska’s North Slope but of the auction off of 73 million acres of Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas drilling.

Our faith in the new life given us by Jesus tells us that we must act to support Gen Z’s attempts to halt these short-sighted projects.  Easter didn’t just happen yesterday, now to be put on the half price off sale shelf. Easter is our continuing commitment to the new world offered us by the One who told us that we can overcome such obstacles if we only put our minds and will to it.

Prayer for the Day

Searching for certainty in an uncertain world,
   We have more doubts than faith, more fear than love;
Wanting answers even before we ask the questions,
   We often miss your presence in our lives.
Break down the walls we use to protect ourselves
   Against your demanding love and let us listen to your voice.
In the name of the One who speaks to us in our time,
   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Some of the challenging emotions we feel about the planet's climate stem from commonly held frameworks about how change works, where power resides, and what possibility looks like …

Offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico does even more damage than we thought, according to new data that uses airborne monitors to measure methane leaking from the oil rigs:

Listen to me, my people, and give heed to me, my nation;
  For a teaching will go out from me, and my justice for a light to the peoples.
