It was an exciting conference in many ways but I am glad to be home again. The cats missed me, for sure, although my son Craig took good care of them. The last night in Minnesota I just kept thinking about all the work that is piled up on my desk, not to mention the tons of mail that needs to be reviewed.
Being in an airplane forces you to come to terms with the myth of always being in charge. Yes, it’s true that airplane travel is safer than auto travel, but we usually have this idea that we are in charge when we are driving. We may be “in charge’ of our own driving, but what about the impact of other drivers on the road, such as, the idiots who weave in and out of traffic or the person who stops short in front of you without notice?
Recognizing our limits is never easy. In fact, it’s probably one of the hardest lessons to learn. Learning any lesson tells us of our limits, which is probably a good lesson in itself to learn.
Prayer for the Day
Ever welcoming God, draw us near so that we listen to your voice
Setting aside the distractions that often pull us away from you.
Center our restless minds and soothe our anxious hearts
So we respond to your calming voice.
May we become instruments of your peace
Embracing humankind in your name.
In the name of the One who shows us how to live,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic."
- Anaïs Nin, writer (1903-1977)
It is worse still to be ignorant of your ignorance.
- Jerome, translator, writer, theologian (342/43-420)
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to observe your righteous ordinances…
Uphold me according to our promise, that I may live,
And let me not be put to shame in my hope.
Psalm 119: 105-106, 116.
