Our night skies have been producing a real mystery lately with some kind of unmanned aerial vehicles increasingly seen over parts of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. Called drones by the viewers and others, evidently some are the size of cars, others smaller flying alone or in groups, the sightings have caused alarm among us.
Senators and governors are now calling on the Federal Government to explain the nature of these sightings. The photos are certainly startling. They seem to appear only at night with flashing lights, fly lower than private airplanes and disappear as soon as they are detected. It’s almost as if ET has come to life.
We have almost the total lack of answers as to what they are or if they pose any danger to us. Drones are required to be registered with the FAA, and over 791,500 are. So far, authorities have said there seem to be no threats or concerns for public safety. Makes one wonder, though. Or, perhaps, we are not alone in this vast universe God created.
Prayer for the Day
We’ve never been a people to like uncertainty, O Lord,
For we believe that knowledge is the key to control;
But you, O God, have a habit of shaking us loose,
Forcing us to admit to our illusions of always being in charge.
Grant, O Holy One, that in searching for answers
We do not forget the power of mystery.
In the name of the One who is always with us,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science.
Albert Einstein, physicist, scientist (1879-1955)
The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery.
Anais Nin, writer (1903-1977)
As it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into our hearts,
the things which God has prepared for those who love God." But God has revealed them to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what person knows what is inside us except the spirit that is in us? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
Paul in the First Letter to the Church in Corinth 2: 9-11
