No Data, No Worries

In an absolutely brilliant move, the new regime has come up with a way so we do not need to worry about greenhouse gases, pollution, or the climate catastrophe we face.  It’s really quite simple.  The EPA will simply stop collecting the data that has us in such a tizzy.  In order to “live up to the promise of unleashing energy dominance,” the EPA will just eliminate the annual Greenhouse Gas Report.

This goes hand in hand with a proposed rule to eliminate the roadless rule regulation designed to protect public lands (yours and mine) so our boreal forests and wilderness can now be made available for gas and oil drilling, not to mention livestock grazing.  The idea is, of course, if you don’t know about pollution or destruction of the environment, then it doesn’t matter how much pollution you create.  Utterly brilliant, for sure.

And those hunters who can think of nothing more intelligent than killing animals to have as trophies are, of course, thrilled. Wildfire danger?  Just a figment of your imagination. Who cares about trees and critters when there’s money to be made?

Prayer for the Day

Clear for now, streams run down the hills into the valleys,

   But how long will they be free from corporate greed?

Skies, filled with the birds you created, O God,

   But how long will they be able to live with spewing smoke?

Turn us around, O Lord, so we honor your creation,

   Not destroy it only to satisfy the greed of corporations.

In the name of the One who walked among the lilies,

   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Public lands management is a balancing act, and you just tipped the scales back to the 19th century when robber barons ran the country, exploiting our lands for personal gain.

            Jennifer Rokala, Center for Western Priorities

With this move [ending pollution reporting], they’re taking away the practical and material capacity of the federal government to do the basic elements of climate policymaking.

            Joseph Goffman, former director of air and radiation, EPA (2020-2025)

For there is no truth in their mouths; their hearts are destruction;

   Their throats open graves; they flatter with their tongues.

Make them bear their guilt, O God, let them fall by their own counsels;

   Because of their many transgressions cast them out,

      For they have rebelled against you.

            Psalm 5: 9-10
