“I’m not happy. I’m really not happy.” Opening the hearing, Federal District Judge Sara Ellis said, “I live in Chicago, if folks haven’t noticed, and I’m not blind, right? So, I don’t live in a cave. I have a phone. I have a TV. I have a computer and I tend to get news.” She wanted to know why her order regarding the use of force was not being followed.
In addition to how protesters at Broadview were treated, there’s a video of a pastor standing and praying to ICE agents positioned on a roof as snipers who shot him repeatedly with pepper balls. Then there’s the photo of an ICE agent in full battle gear, like the kind you saw our soldiers wearing Iraq pointing a weapon at an unarmed protester trying to shield his face.
This wasn’t the “No Kings Day” march with people talking with others they had never met. When the target becomes New York, violent enforcers will spill over into New Jersey and Connecticut. Of course, with all the mayhem, the commutation of George Santos’ sentence will be almost forgotten. Notice how the Chief law enforcer has pardoned financial criminal after criminal? What’s the old saying about fleas?
Prayer for the Day
Refusing to sacrifice to the Emperor,
Early Christians faced the power of the state;
Refusing to quietly stand by as communities are broken,
People raise their voices in prayer and protest.
Grant, O God, that the arbiters of power turn from hate,
And open our Nation to a new path of justice.
In the name of the One who calls for peace and justice,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
The issue is that DHS is using force in a manner that violates the constitutional rights of peaceful protesters, journalists and, essentially, clergy members,
The Hon. Sara Ellis, U.S. District Judge
We could hear them laughing [as ICE shot Rev. Black with at least 7 pepper balls].
Rev. David Black, First Presbyterian Church, Chicago
Is there an updated version of the Bible that I missed? Because I don’t recall anything in my Catholic upbringing that was pro-priest-popping or supportive of masked agents of the government slamming journalists to the ground.
