More of Los Angeles would be in ruins if hundreds of Canadian firefighters had not come down over the border to help. And Canadian troops were there beside us in Afghanistan. However, the new regime seems to think that Canada should not only pay exorbitant tariffs over a crisis that does not exist, but in a 21st century version of Manifest Destiny, should desire to become a “cherished” 51st state.
It’s more than offensive and not what the American people voted for. But with a multi-billionaire taking over Treasury payments while he courts neo-Nazis in Europe, who’s to know what comes next. This is not the 19th century when countries could establish empires at will. The problem is it will be ordinary people who will suffer economically.
Perhaps the genius in chief should pay attention to our coast off the Gulf of Mexico where people –American people – live daily with gas flare-offs burning 24/7, rusting pipes polluting the water, and where oil and petrol companies destroy the lives of the people living there. Would that Amos’ prophecy of the first to go into exile is true.

Turning away from the world around us,
We have sought to isolate ourselves from others;
Closing ourselves from the truth of your Spirit
