Although not great or outdoor farmers’ markets, the one advantage about rainy Sunday mornings is the reduction in traffic, especially on the Parkway. It’s a good morning to think about the fall coming in. Most of the week promises to be rainy as well as well as cool. It is obviously soup season.
Homemade soups are the greatest. Some stalks of celery, a carrot, leeks, parsley, and the fresh herbs from the garden to be picked. And we can’t forget the bay leaf. Bay leaves come from the laurel tree native to the Mediterranean region. They aren’t poisonous as thought by some, but the taste is bitter. But they really add to the soup.
Long simmering soups fill our living spaces with wonderful aromas, and the really good thing about homemade soups is that you know what’s actually in them. As the soup simmers on the stove, it’s also a good time to sit, relax, read a book, or just look at the rain and feel the presence of God.
