Pseudoscience in the Driver's Seat

The events in Los Angeles have taken so much of our attention that some of us have never had the energy to be concerned about other events that most certainly will impact our lives over the next several months. It’s almost summer now but the CDC vaccine advisory board which needs months of planning for the fall and winter flu/Covid season never had the opportunity to meet and discuss what needs to be done.

In fact, all 17 infectious disease experts were abruptly dismissed from their posts, and a slew of new members have been appointed, some of whom are against vaccines and some of whom have no medical expertise. Instead we have a person from a School of Management who opposed coronavirus vaccines for young people, among others.

Blasting the old panel for never voting against vaccines, although off the front pages, measles continues to spread.  Every professional medical organization has expressed its disapproval of Kennedy’s actions.  But who cares about expert opinion?

Prayer for the Day

You gave us minds to discern truth from falsehood, O God,

   But there are those who claim truth beyond their own limits;

You gave us the ability to learn from our mistakes, O Lord,

But there are those whose prejudices have taken over.

Open to us the paths of wisdom, the learning from science,

So we may protect the vulnerable against disease and death.

In the name of the One who heals our minds,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The whole goal is to have evidence that the vaccines work and are protecting people.

Jamie Loehr, M.D., ousted from the ACIP panel

The speed with which these members were selected, and the lack of transparency in the process, does not help to restore public confidence and trust.

Jason Goldman, President, American College of Physicians

Secretary Kennedy’s allegations about the integrity of CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices are completely unfounded and will have a significant negative impact on Americans of all ages.

Tina Tan, MD, FIDSA, FPIDS, FAAP, Infectious Disease Society of Amerca

Learn where there is wisdom, where there is strength, where there is understanding,

So that you may at the same time discern, where there is length of days, and life,

Where there is light for the eyes, and peace.
