The end of the week, the end of a horrific month when between the surprise attack on Venezuela, threats of “taking over” Greenland, and ICE brutality in Minnesota that left two citizens and at least seven others dead, events have just overwhelmed us. We’re fearing what next month will bring.
This weekend, of course, pundits will be parsing the latest release of the Epstein files. Which evidently amount to about three million documents. How anyone could have that many documents about just this disgusting and morally reprehensible part of his life is beyond me, but evidently Epstein took great pleasure in highlighting his connections to the rich and powerful, who are now scrambling to explain their connections. And there is still the strong suspicion that the White House and DOJ vetted the files to excise any possible reference to the president.
Meanwhile, back here in the world of us plebeians, it’s still very, very cold, inflation is still rising along with unemployment, not to mention energy prices since we are still subsidizing the AI centers built by the rich and powerful. Nothing seems to change. As we look into next month, which will bring us the Season of Lent, we need to make it more than a time of sackcloth and ashes but a time of new resolve and new action.
Prayer for the Day
Glistening in the early morning in the sunlight,
The snow’s beauty almost makes us forget the cold;
Still now the branches are stark against the morning sky,
Giving us the illusion of winter warmth even in the cold.
Make us remember your call to justice and mercy, O Lord,
So we do not forget those who have no shelter,
In the name of the One who summons us to do justice,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
While most countries struggle to cool energy-hungry data centers or burn fuel to heat homes during harsh winters, Finland has found a brilliant way to solve both problems at once. The country is now heating entire cities using waste heat from underground data centers built inside old bomb shelters and abandoned mines.

It’s not about supplication, it’s about power. It’s not about asking, it’s about demanding. It’s not about convincing those who are currently in power, it’s about changing the face of power itself.
Kimberly Williams Crenshaw, UCLA School of Law.
There is no Holy One like the Lord, no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth;
For the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by God our actions are weighed.
The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble gird on strength.
