Every once in a while, I think I should reconsider my negative feelings towards the State of Alabama, but then I see some story about the latest bigoted approach towards some group of persons.  Added to racism is the attack on transgender kids. The state legislature in its wisdom has now banned gender affirming care by physicians or parents to persons under 18.

Now there’s a great target.  A minority within a minority.  What better way to scare the yahoo population into thinking that there’s a trans kid behind every tree just waiting to grab “normal” kids to make them trans?

Parents who realize that a child might be troubled about gender identity can face felony charges and prison time for seeking medical care for their child. If a trans kid confides in a school counselor that he or she is confused, that counselor must inform the parent.  Why don’t we just get out the nooses right now?  Obviously such persons have no right to live – at least in Alabama. It’s always been a good state for lynching.

Prayer for the Day

We cry to you like did the Psalmist, O God,
  For prejudice and stupidity rules some in the land;
We search our hearts and wonder, how is this possible
To target children who struggle to learn who they are.
Grant, O most merciful One, that narrow-minded bigots
Will see the diversity of your creation and the error of their ways.
In the name of the One who welcomes all,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

We’re just a regular family that lives down the street. We go on vacation, we go out to eat dinner, and we sit around and watch movies together just like normal families do. We would love for all of this to just go away and us to be able to just be who we are.
       - Jeff Walker, parent of a trans daughter in Alabama

We’ve lost sense of what is science, what is fact, and what is reality.
       - Morissa Landinsky, Professor Pediatrics, University of Birmingham

To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, do not refuse to hear me,
For if you are silent to me, I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.
Hear the voice of my supplication, as I cry to you for help,
As I left up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.
    Psalm 28: 1-2
