And it’s going to get even hotter tomorrow. By Tuesday when the temperature only reaches 90, it will seem cool. And where’s the rain the weather report keeps promising? Granted, we’re not in Texas or Arizona or even in the South, but it is really, really hot.
Many of us were hoping Biden would declare a climate emergency so certain regulatory actions could be put into place, but, unfortunately, he chickened out. Speaking of chickens, most of those poor penned up creatures at least get air conditioning before they’re strung up on a factory line.
Addressing the climate crisis we have will take more than recycling some plastic bottles; it will take a total change in the way we live. That’s the problem, of course. Not enough of us want to change or lifestyles to accommodate a world we don’t fully understand. If we want our civilization to survive, we must consider the long haul into a future that lives beyond our own years.
Prayer for the Day
In the heat of the summer, our minds are full of lots of things:
And our thoughts crowd out the true purpose of our lives;
Bring us back to remembering who we are as your people,
To not just resolving to do better but to doing better
My we be your instruments in realizing the kingdom,
As we seek to share your promise with the world.
In the name of the One who shares your promise with us,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Cooling centers are important, but we can’t get out of this mess by building cooing centers.

Preservation of our environment is not a liberal or conservative challenge. It’s common sense.
- Ronald Reagan, actor, President (1911-2004)
In the heavens God set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom,
From the wedding canopy and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them,
And nothing is hidden from its heat.
Psalm 19:4-6
