Saturday March 6, 2021

Thanks to the brave members of a group called Hunter Nation and a short sighted judge 216 wolves were killed in the State of Wisconsin within 60 hours.  The decision resulted from hunting groups pressure in 2020 to delist the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act.

Many of the wolves murdered were pregnant females.  One has to wonder how these excuses for too much testosterone would react if their pregnant wives were being stalked by creatures armed with semi-automatic rifles.

To the Native Americans, all life is sacred so they would hunt the wolf, the elk, and the caribou not for sport but for sustenance. The gray wolf should be listed again. In this season of Lent our repentance should include the destruction of the natural world.

Prayer for the Day

Make repentance more than part of a ritual, O God,

But transform our lives through your grace,

For we often limit ourselves to our own imagination.

In your mercy, expand our vision into yours,

In your grace, deepen our commitment to your world.

Bringing us into harmony with your heart.

In the name of him who expanded our vision of you,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The famous balance of nature is the most extraordinary of cybernetic systems.  Left to itself, it is always self-regulated.

                                               - Joseph Wood Krutch, naturalist (1893-1970)

Although the patriarchal ego prides itself on being reasonable, the twentieth century has been anything but reasonable. In our collective neurosis we have raped the earth, disrupted the delicate balance of nature, and built phallic missiles of mass destruction.

                                                - Marion Woodman, Canadian writer, poet (1928-2018)

Turn to me and be gracious to me as is your custom towards those who love you.

Keep my steps steady according to your promise,

And never let iniquity have dominion over me.

                                                 Psalm 119: 132-133
