We have to admit it.  Although it’s only been a few days since the murders of children in in a school in Uvalde, Texas, we’re at the point where we just can’t stand it anymore. Now a new question reels in our minds: if the police had broken into the room where the killer was murdering children, if some of them could have been saved.

The fact that the story of police response has changed not just once but several times -- this has got to make you wonder. The fact that the police were more concerned with preventing parents from entering the school than taking down the killer – not shooter but killer, for that is what he was.

At least Governor Abbott had the common sense, if not respect for the murdered children, not to appear at the NRA Convention, unlike some other politicians. We are tired, just tired of seeing our children killed in schools, in bedrooms, on front porches, we are just tired.  After Sandy Hook, we thought, perhaps, just perhaps, but no. More had to die.  We just can’t stand it anymore.

Prayer for the Day

Tired, O Lord, we are tired of excuses for inaction,
    While children and adults die from gun violence;
Angry, O God, we are angry at politicians who hide
    Behind the cloak of the gun lobby and its money.
Grant, O God, that we awaken from our slumber
    So we take on the forces of evil that abound in our land.
In the name of the One who overturned tables,
    Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The Gun Lobby’s interpretation of the Second Amendment is one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat fraud, on the American people by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.
      - Chief Justice Warren Burger, from an interview in 1991 (1907-1996)

Senators say they fear the N.R.A. and the gun lobby.  But I think that this must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders at Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets.
         - Gabby Giffords, former U.S. Representative shot at a public meeting

As whirlwinds in the Negreb sweep on, it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.
   A stern vision is told to me; the betrayer betrays, and the destroyer destroys,
    Isaiah 21: 1-2
