Although we in the tristate region really got walloped by the remnants of Hurricane Ida most of us did not find ourselves in the position of trying not to drown in a basement apartment or losing a great deal of what we once owned.  Some of us lost a few trees, others had to pump out basements, and others were evacuated from low lying places.

Bound Brook is called that because it is literally bound by three flowing bodies of water. The Raritan River separates Bound Brook from South Bound Brook. Green Brook to the east is either a small brook or an overflowing stream, depending on the amount of rain. Middle Brook is to the west, emptying into the Raritan.

The crisp morning air is a harbinger of fall, but we’re not out of the hurricane season yet. Another storm is brewing in the mid-Atlantic as we look at the sun today.  It’s utterly astounding that leaders from those states down south that have lost so much from the storms still balk at the seriousness of climate change.

Prayer for the Day

Recovering from storms that have battered us,

    We struggle to understand how the world is changing;

Looking for new approaches to living,

We realize we must change our ways.

Open the eyes of those in power, O God,

And transform us into a new society.

In the name of him who transforms lives,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Margaret Mead, American cultural anthropologist (1901-1978)

The world we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.

            Albert Einstein, theoretical physicist (1979-1955)

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.

Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain to me a willing spirit.

            Psalm 51: 10-12
