Summer Is Coming And So Is The Heat

At 10:42 PM, the summer solstice will occur, the point at which point the sun hits the Tropic of Cancer; of course, the solstice this year occurs at night, but you get the idea, Although today seems lovely and glorious, it will start heating up with a vengeance into the coming week.  Last year, 2024, was the hottest on record, thanks to the greed of Big Oil, this year will be even worse.

New data from NASA indicate that the intensity of storms and extreme weather events is increasing rapidly, last year’s figures twice that of the time period 2003-2020, and that  the sudden spike has occurred since 2020.  The fluctuation between drought and floods will affect more than 200 million people on our planet.

Scientists have been warning us for over half a century now, but our insatiable drive for more – and more – continues to overtake us.  The 2025 update by the Club of Rome on its 1972 study, The Limits to Growth, lays out a plan but the “me first” politicians are not listening and all of us will suffer as a consequence.

Prayer for the Day

May we bless God, Creator and Sustainer of life,

     By protecting all that grows from the earth, forest and plain;

May we listen to God through the sounds of rivers and springs,

     Through the song of dolphins, whales, and other creatures.

May we hear the bellow of frogs and toads in swamp and wood,

     As they praise God and plead that we sustain the creation.

In the name of the One who gives us life in God,

     Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

This study shines a light on yet another way human activities are disrupting the climate system that will come back to bite us all with more unprecedented and destructive summer weather events

Climate costs are now a defining force in economic planning and investment strategy. This report unpacks how $18.5 trillion in disaster-related spending is influencing financial markets, corporate performance, and policy choices.

Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I will observe it to the end.

   Give me understanding that I may keep your law,

      And observe it with my whole heart.
