Well, after our short promise that spring Is on its way, it’s snowing.  To think I saw the beginning of daffodils breaking through the earth yesterday.  Scrambling through the internet, the short answer as to whether the snow will kill them, the answer is no.  It’s a typical late winter snow, heavy and wet.

The birds aren’t up yet, but hearing the forecast, I had filled the birdfeeders yesterday.  It’s interesting to watch birds feed.  Except for blue jays, they take turns at the feeders, each bird getting some seed then moving to the branches of the forsythia to let other birds feed.  We humans could learn some lessons here.

The deer will be here soon, looking for a handout.  Happily, for the deer, in addition to corn, there is still an apple in my fruit bowl.  We’ve taken so much of their habitat the least we can do is give them some corn. Of course, they’ll have to beat the squirrels, although huddled right now, will be going for food as soon as it’s out there.

Prayer for the Day

Past the midpoint of winter, we look for signs of spring, O God,
But today the snow reminds us that seasons come in due time’
Eager for warmer days and star filled nights, we are impatient,
As the snowflakes dance around us and we think of spring.
Open our eyes to the beauty of the day you have given us,
And teach us patience for, indeed spring will come.
In the name of the One who opened our eyes to the world,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

…there’s just something beautiful about walking on snow that nobody else has walked on. It makes you believe you’re special, even though you know you’re not
      - Carol Rifka Brunt, American novelist

Around the glistening wonder bent/The blue walls of the firmament, No cloud above, no earth below,— A universe of sky and snow!”
      - John Greenleaf Whittier, American poet (1807-1892)

As for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord, at an acceptable time, O God,
In the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me.
    Psalm 69: 13
