The snow this year has made up for not having any at all last year. Today there’s another storm on the way. The forecaster said 5 to 9 inches, but perhaps it will be less. The birds are fluttering about fighting the squirrel in the bird feeders, and the local stores were mobbed yesterday, almost as bad as last March when everyone was trying to get toilet paper and paper towels. Hopefully, the snow will keep people at home who would otherwise party watching the Super Bowl. My late husband Bob was a football fan – I am not – and he went to watch the first game in 1967. I was home with my baby Keith who for some unknown reason started having convulsions. When I called the pediatrician, he called me right back – mind you, this was a Sunday afternoon but he always responded. He ordered up some Benadryl, and told me that if they didn’t stop within 30 minutes of the medication, to come to the hospital and he would meet me there. So, even though I do not watch football, I’ll always remember that first Super Bowl and the best pediatrician any child could have.
Prayer for the Day
Now the snow is softly falling but will become heavier as the day goes on, Flashes of red dart to and fro seeking food from the feeders; We know, O God, that all creatures are within your care even in winter, For you have made them, some going south, some staying here. O gracious Creator, help us care for all of your creation As you have created us and care for us. In the name of him who came to show us your care, Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Events cast their shadows ahead; before a harsh winter, wild animals grow thicker fur, and the beaver puts on a thicker layer of fat. What kind of times and what sort of tasks can lie ahead for a generation that must think so harshly, even at such a young age, in order to survive? Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Pastor, martyr (1906-1945) In winter all the singing is in the tops of trees. Mary Oliver, American poet (1935-2019) May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable to you, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19: 14
