It feels like a Jersey summer and it isn’t even summer yet!  Yesterday the heat was overwhelming and overbearing and today promises to be more of the same.  Already there’s a haze out there.  Tomorrow does promise to be back more like spring.  But as we turn on the air conditioners we haven’t used since last summer, let’s look at other ways to stay cool, or at least comfortable.

We’re fortunate here in the Northeast to at least have periods of rain to cool things down and keep life on a somewhat even keel. Out West where so many climate crisis deniers live, they are sweltering in their heat and drought.

Shifting to solar and wind makes so much sense. As sensible people and as a people committed to saving God’s creation, we should put more pressure on Congress to turn away from fossil fuels so we do not rob the future from our children.

Prayer for the Day

We do not treasure your creation enough, Origin of life,
     Even as it appears so vast and incomprehensible;
We want to tame it and reign it in to fit our limited view,
But you call us to broaden our vision.
May we accept your infinity, and not resist your call.
So that the river of your vision washes us clean.
In the name of him who opened the river of your love,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.
      - Chris Maser, writer

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our children.
      - Attributed to Chief Seattle (1786-1866)

Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps,
Fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling God’s command.
Mountains and hills, fruit trees and all cedars!
Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds!
    Psalm 148: 7-10
