On this beautiful spring morning, what is it that we read?  Another – another – mass shooting, this time at a shopping mall in Texas.  At least eight dead, others critically wounded.  Well, Governor Abbott and all you gun-toting legislators, I’m so glad that you are praying for the families.

Why don’t you do SOMETHING? Shootings at churches, schools, malls – but, oh no, not where the cringing cowards of Congress live.  Goodness gracious! We’ve only had 199 mass shootings and it’s only the first week of May. Like the prophets, we cry out for respite, but there is none, not while states and Congress just say “tsk, tsk, tsk.”

There are limits on freedom of speech, such as calling for violence, why no limits on the ownership of mass destruction?  In Texas people can carry guns without a permit, but still need a license to drive a car.  How many more must die?  How many more?

Prayer for the Day

Even when caught in the struggles of everyday life,
   We know what to confess, O Holy One;
We know you give your steadfast love even when we falter and fail.
     Forgive our failings and our inability to change our lives
 And grant us the courage to take on the evils of our time.
     In the name of the One who is our model of courage,
         Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

These horrific tragedies are occurring with increasing regularity and it’s clear there’s no place in this country where Americans are safe from gun violence. But this will continue to be our reality unless and until the U.S. changes its relationship with guns and our lawmakers finally answer to the American people, not the gun lobby.
     - Kris Brown, United Against Gun Violence

This is freedom?? To be shot at a mall? Shot at school? Shot at church? Shot at the movies? We have become a nation that is more focused on the right to kill than the right to live. This is not what the American people want.
     - Gavin Newsome, Governor, California

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
   Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer;
   And by night, but find no rest.
    Psalm 22: 1-2
