Sounds like a little thing but actually, sometimes what seems like a logical approach takes an awful event to spur someone into action. Back in 2007, a young woman was seriously injured in a car crash but because there was no way to know who her parents were, they didn’t learn of the accident until it was too late.
Now persons renewing their licenses can add another bit of information: who to contact in case of accident. Several years ago, before the Pandemic – remember that time – as a church we created ICE cards – In Case of Emergency – to carry in our wallets.
Under this new law whenever a person obtains or renews a license, they will be offered the opportunity to add such information to their license record, information that the police could readily through the computer system police cars have. In this age of travel, it just makes sense. Shame it took so long.
Prayer for the Day
Holy One who illumines the skies, we do not see you as a distant deity,
But as a vibrant living Presence in our lives;
We know we are more haunted by our fears than buttressed by faith,
We want to be followers of Jesus but our ideals falter.
Help us, O God, to catch a glimpse of your truth so that we live boldly
Expanding our vision of your justice and your peace.
As did the One who shows us the way to real faith,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.
- Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain (1835-1910)
It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”
- Ursula K. Le Guin, writer from The Left Hand of Darkness (1929-2018)
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord.
Jeremiah 29: 10-13
