The Folly of Ignorance

If you thought that shutting down federal agencies wouldn’t affect you, look at the plans that Project 2025 has for NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which includes the National Weather Service, you know, that agency we rely on to tell us when the storms, hurricanes, and tornados come.

Musk, the unelected guru who thinks he runs the government, has sent his team of elves into government agencies, locking out staff and messing with really important data. Not only is New Jersey threatened but the entire Eastern seaboard, from Florida to Maine, not to mention Trump’s heartland, the tornado territory of the Midwest.

The databases that NOAA operates were pulled offline this week, including the Keeling Curve, a tool used since the 1950s to track carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. This is downright dangerous—imagine what would have happened here if we had not known about Sandy before it struck or even in North Carolina before Helene tore through. And many members of Congress, fearing Musk, just turn a blind eye.

Prayer for the Day

Called us to lift the scales of blindness from our eyes,

And the limits of intolerance from our hearts,

We try to be faithful servants responding to your word,

But we are ordinary people sometimes afraid to take risks.

Embolden us and move to protect ourselves and others

So that we are able to lie with knowledge and not fear.

In the name of the One who is our strength,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen

Thoughts for the Day

The Jersey Shore’s economy and safety depends on honest and dependable weather and tidal information. Let’s be clear: this is dangerous and corrupt, plain and simple. We will fight this Trump-Musk power grab with everything we’ve got — our safety and economy are not for sale.

            Frank Pallone, U.S. Congress (D-NJ)

You would see death tolls explode, frankly, without proper warnings.

            David Robinson, state climatologist

Their roaring is like a lion, the young lions they roar;

They growl and seize their prey, carrying it off and no one can rescue.

They will roar over it on that day, like the roaring of the sea.

And if one look to the land, only darkness and distress, light growing dark with clouds.

            Isaiah 5: 29-30
