“Better get used to us now, because this going to be normal very soon,” said Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino said in an interview. And when a National Guard major questioned his tactics, Bovino questioned his loyalty to the country. This new normal just doesn’t affect immigration, but all of us in many other parts of our lives.
Take tariffs and the family farm, for example. Something most of us in the urban East don’t really think about. But, with the tariffs, China has stopped buying soybeans, family farms are struggling while corporate agriculture is getting subsidies. Remember the bumper sticker: No Farms, No Food.
And, of course, we have Speaker Mike Johnson saying he cannot swear in Adelita Grivjala, who won her late father’s seat because Congress is “not in session.” Now, there’s an eight letter euphemism for nonsense. Closer to home, two Rutgers professors and their families are literally leaving the country due to death threats to them and their families posted by TurningPoint, Charlie Kirk’s group. So much for Erika Kirk’s call for nonviolence. Welcome to the new normal.
Prayer for the Day
As the old normal seems to disappear,
Here we are, O God, wondering where you are;
As our world seems to be turning upside down,
Here we are, O Lord, waiting for your rescue.
But we know, deep in our hearts, that your grace,
Which we need, will give us strength for the struggle.
In the name of the One who is our strength,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
You think it’s a Hollywood video? That’s real life. It might be so real life that it appears to be Hollywood, but a lot of that is real time. A lot of that is what’s actually happening on the ground.

It has nothing to do with that [signing petition to release Epstein files] at all. We will swear her in when everybody gets back.
Speaker Johnson, after Grijalva won the election September 23
O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous,
You who test minds and hearts, O righteous God.
God is my shield, who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day.
