Between scenes of senseless horror and gun violence, the Justice Department has filed a civil rights suit against the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department for delays in issuing gun permit applications, including requiring a bolted safe place to keep guns, and that they take too long to issue a permit. You can’t make his stuff up. This is a civil rights matter? Dollar to a donut that the Brown University killer got his gun legally.
Right now Congress has two bills in the hopper that would force every state to recognize every other state’s gun laws on carrying concealed loaded weapons in public. Texas permits people without prior felonies or certain types of misdemeanors to do so without a license. New Jersey and Connecticut require licenses with background checks. Do we want people without licenses to carry guns here?
The response of “things can happen” following the Brown U shooting boggles our minds. What kind of leader makes a statement like that when people are murdered in cold blood? The gun lobby points to a reduction in school shootings this year—“only” 230 compared to 336 in 2024. Only? What is wrong with us?
Prayer for the Day
Looking to futures they will never have, the dead cry from their graves,
As we continue our cycle of gun violence in our schools;
Parents and friends, staggered by the loss of those they loved,
Still unable to curtail the money used for guns.
How long, O Lord, will we allow this violence,
Shattering our families and communities to continue?
In the name of the One who grieves with us,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
No student should ever receive an alert telling them to run, hide, and fight just to survive on campus. This is not normal, it is not acceptable, and our students deserve action that ends gun violence — not instructions on how to endure a tragedy that never should have happened.

I keep hearing this f-- thing that guns don't kill people, but people kill people. If that's the case, why do we give people guns when they go to war? Why not just send the people?
Ozzy Osborne, British singer (1948-2025)
Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord.
Let us lift our hearts as well as our hands to God in heaven.
We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven.
