Yesterday we heard commitment and promises. Today begins the hard work that a new administration faces in beginning to meet the challenges of those commitments. The pandemic is still surging and we are still fearful of mutant viruses in spite of promises of vaccines to be delivered. Part of our concern for national unity must be a commitment to tackle the pandemic and its resultant problems as a nation with a common vision.
This week also marks the first Covid case in a Seattle hospital. It seemed like a strange form of flu but at that time we had no knowledge of what this virus could do or how rapidly it could spread. We still need to keep out guard up, wash hands, wear masks, and work together for our common good.
As we move forward, it is essential that we remember that we share common dreams, common goals and that we can only achieve them if we work together moving beyond what disappointments we may feel.
Prayer for the Day
God of all blessings, we come, thirsty for you,
Needing rivers in the deserts of our hearts,
Searching for your grace to well up in us as water from a spring
We ask for tenderness of heart and strength of soul.
Choose us this day, gentle God, and we shall be chosen.
Fill our hearts with your love so we may your witnesses,
As was the One who showed us how to love,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen
Thoughts for the Day
If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
- Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.
- Louisa May Alcott (1822-1888)
